GRK 2274 - Advanced medical physics for image-guided cancer therapy

  • Speaker: Prof. Dr. Katia Parodi
  • Affiliation: Faculty of Physics, Chair of Experimental Physics - Medical Physics
  • Funding: 2017 to 2021

Imaging methods play a decisive role in targeted therapies against cancer. The German Research Foundation (DFG) is now establishing the new Research Training Group "Advanced Medical Physics for Image-Guided Cancer Therapy". The speaker is Katia Parodi, holder of the Chair of Medical Physics at the LMU, whose research focus is image-guided high-precision radiation therapy with photons, protons and heavy ions.

The program of the research group has an interdisciplinary orientation and is supported by the physical and medical faculties of the LMU and the Technical University of Munich, which provides the deputy spokesperson with Professor Franz Pfeiffer. Helmholtz Zentrum München is also involved. The research group pursues innovative approaches in computing, imaging and therapy with the aim of transferring them into clinical application as early as possible. A comprehensive qualification concept is intended to give young scientists access to well-founded expert knowledge as well as interdisciplinary and international training.
