appointed honorary professor for immunology on 02/14/2000
Professor Baeuerle is co-founder of six MPM oncology portfolio companies. In 2019, Professor Baeuerle received the "X of the Year Award" from Xconomy and the Lennart Philipson Award from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in recognition of his numerous contributions to the development of cancer immunotherapies. He has a Hirsh index of 130 and was rated as one of the top 0.01% of the most frequently cited scientists (Stanford-studie by Ioannides et al., 2019).

Prof. Dr. Harald Barwitz
appointed honorary professor for general medicine on March 18, 2003
During his time as head of the department from 1997 to 2008, Professor Barwitz worked tirelessly to improve teaching and strengthen general medicine at the LMU. In addition to teaching, Professor Barwitz was scientifically involved in health services research. For many years he has dealt with EBM-based guidelines for advice relevant to GPs such as coughing, runny nose, hoarseness, sore throat or burning sensation when urinating.

Prof. Dr. Franz Joseph Freisledert
Appointed honorary professor for child and adolescent psychiatry on April 20, 2010
Professor Freisleder, specialist in psychiatry, neurology, child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy, was appointed medical director of the Heckscher Clinic in 1997. Even before his appointment as an honorary professor, the doctor was continuously involved in university teaching at LMU. Scientifically, he deals in particular with questions of forensic child and adolescent psychiatry.

Prof. Dr. F. Ulrich Hartl
appointed honorary professor for psychological chemistry on 07/07/1997
Professor Hartl is director of the "Cellular Biochemistry" research department at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry. Professor Hartl and his research team research the structure and functionality of chaperones. He is also concerned with the question of how toxic protein aggregates, which occur more frequently with increasing age in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Huntington's chorea, impair cell functions and is looking for strategies to prevent this.

Prof. Dr. Günther F. Kerscher
zum Honorarprofessor für Public Health berufen am 20.04.2010
Professor Kerscher ist Facharzt für „Öffentliches Gesundheitswesen“ mit der Zusatzbezeichnung „Umweltmedizin“. Zuletzt war er Leiter der Abteilung Gesundheit des Bayerischen Staatsministeriums für Umwelt und Gesundheit. Zu seinen thematischen Schwerpunkten zählen Grundsatzfragen der Medizin, der Gesundheitspolitik und des Gesundheitsrechts, Öffentliches Gesundheitswesen, Sozialmedizin, Infektionsschutz, Hygiene und Umweltmedizin.

Prof. Dr. Albert Standl
zum Honorarprofessor für Geriatrie in der Allgemeinmedizin berufen am 23.10.2007
Professor Standl war bereits seit 1991 als Gastreferent für Geriatrie für die Uni tätig und übernahm dann ab 1999 als Lehrbeauftragter weitere Aufgaben in der Allgemeinmedizin-Lehre. Neben den Tätigkeiten als Vorlesungsdozent, Seminarleiter, Kerngruppenmitglied, Promotionsbetreuer und Staatsexamensprüfer ermöglichte er vielen Studenten in seiner Lehrpraxis praktische Einblicke in die hausärztliche Tätigkeit. 2008 übernahm er die Leitung des Lehrbereichs Allgemeinmedizin, die er bis 2014 innehatte.

Prof. Dr. Hartmut Wekerle
zum Honorarprofessor für Neuroimmunologie berufen am 08.04.1993
Professor Wekerle war von 1988 bis 2012 Direktor am Max-Planck-Institut für Neurobiologie und leitete dort bis 2012 die Abteilung Neuroimmunologie. Von 2012 bis 2018 hatte Professor Wekerle eine Seniorprofessur der Hertie-Stiftung inne. Wissenschaftlich beschäftigte Professor Wekerle sich mit der Entstehung von Autoimmunerkrankungen im Bereich des Zentralnervensystems (ZNS).

Prof. Dr. Andreas Zapf
zum Honorarprofessor für Öffentliches Gesundheitswesen berufen am 30. Juni 2020
Professor Zapf ist im Bayerischen Staatministerium für Umwelt und Verbraucherschutz tätig. Er war viele Jahre Präsident des Bayerischen Landesamtes für Gesundheit und Lebensmittelsicherheit.
